looking over pretty gray scene toward the bay bridge. we have ktvu team coverage with our reporters spread out across the bay area tracking fladded roadways -- flooded roadways, downed trees and weather- related traffic accidents. stormwatch starts now. we begin here with rosemary tracking the conditions right now. >> yes. you were here when it was really storming. still at this hour, the wet weather continues. the spotty showers will be with us through your entire friday. you can see stormtracker2 showing you a combination of light showers and moderate showers. we have a few falling over livermore. let's start in the south bay area where we have light scattered showers over san jose. morgan hill and gilroy reporting light showers as well. if we shift into the central portions of the bay, we'll get closer in and around livermore where moderate rain is falling around 580, pleasanton, sunol, you may have moderate rain falling over your city as well. as we get into the central bay and north bay, you can see very sporadic rain showers falling but the bay bridge right now, a wet one. san franci
in the growing number of crashes. one crash in oakland is deadly. ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. >> good morning. we want to take you back out live to highway 24 this morning. a huge scene. a fatal crash most likely because of the weather. the wet roads out there and now that will slow traffic down there as the investigation continues out there. highway 24 the coroner is out there as well. so that part of the roadway will be closed as sal mentioned for quite some time. we are watching a lot of weather related incidents around the bay area though so stay with us. it is friday, february 28th. that is the good news. at least it is friday. >> yeah. and you want everybody to give themselves extra time. i'm dave clark. we're on storm watch. a wet and windy friday morning. we have live team coverage for you. janine de la vega is in san jose. brian flores at that oakland location. but first let's start with sal and steve paulson. steve, you are tracking where the storm is right now. >> well, it's all over the place. but to the west is really -- look at that low. that is just as good adds it gets
in oakland, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> check this out -- the rain is causing dangerous flash flooding around the bay area. that's a real hazard for drivers. this might be one of the worst situations. this is video of standing water in the area of santa clara street where it turns into the alameda/san jose. at least two drivers had to be rescued when they drove into high water and got stuck. they say they never saw the water before driving into it. >> another traffic issue, this crash happened at the hickey boulevard exit on 280 in daly city around 2:30 this morning. no one was hurt. but a couple of lanes were blocked for a short time. >>> 7:06. thousands of bay area homes and businesses have no power. pg&e says the biggest outages are in the north bay. two separate blackouts affecting 5700 customers near napa. in the san jose area, 660 homes and businesses are without power. in pittsburg, 328 customers are in the dark. a power pole was knocked down. more than 100 have no electricity in san francisco. just a handful of people on the peninsula have no power. in most cases, the

problems with it. ktvu's janine de la vega is live in palo alto just one city in santa clara county bracing for potential flooding. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. there is light rain falling right now here in palo alto. there is concern about flooding in various parts of the peninsula. you can see here, i'm surrounded by sandbags. i'm here at a pickup location on embarcadero. this is a great way to protect your property by lining it with these bags. somebody just came by a little while ago and loaded bag in their car. it was sprinkling in east palo alto where the city has designated sandbag pickup locations, including this one on university avenue. now, city officials are concerned because of the major flooding that took place when a storm hit in december of 2012. the creek crested. the surrounding neighborhoods flooded causing damage to streets. with rain hitting over the next few weeks, they are preparing. crews are on standby around the clock for the next few days to handle any situations that might arrive. there are 23 locations in the south bay where you can pick it u
